The Allen High School Fine Arts Department will present a musical adaptation of the classic 1939 movie “The Wizard of Oz” on Feb. 7 and 8 at 7 p.m. and on Feb. 9 at 2 and 7 p.m. All performances will be in the Allen Performing Arts Center on the high school campus at 300 Rivercrest Blvd.
The production is the first musical to be staged in the new performing arts center. Performances feature acting, singing and dancing by Allen High School fine arts students. High school orchestra and band students will provide the music. Additionally, Allen ISD fifth graders will make special appearances as Munchkins.
All seats are reserved and ticket prices are $15, $10 and $5. Tickets may be purchased online at www.allenisd.org/pac. Tickets also may be purchased at the PAC. The center’s box office is located in the high school’s Commons area and will be open Feb. 4 – 8 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Feb. 9 from noon to 8 p.m. For ticketing questions or assistance e-mail [email protected].
The musical was inspired by By L. Frank Baum’s novel, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” Music and lyrics are by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg with background music by Herbert Stothart. Dance and vocal arrangements are by Peter Howard and orchestration is by Larry Wilcox. Originally adapted by John Kane for the Royal Shakespeare Company. The motion picture is owned by Turner Entertainment Co. and distributed in all media by Warner Bros.
Considering that my girls and I are kind of musical junkies – we are excited that this will be the first (and certainly not last) musical to christen the stage of the new performing arts center.
