I am a retired Civil Engineer. Having 30 plus years of Engineering
experience does help in the Real Estate Profession. As a Civil Engineer, I learned about creating
a residential subdivision which includes grading and drainage of the land, different
lot sizes to use with different zoning, front and rear building line setbacks,
utility and drainage easements, surveying, street requirements, water and sewer
lines, plats, and FEMA flood plains.
During one phase of my Engineering career, I worked as a Project
Engineer for a Land Developer who bought raw land and built residential
subdivisions and sold lots to home builders.
Working with 15 different home builders gave me a great
perspective on what it takes to build a quality home. Engineering also involves working with a team to plan and design projects. Working as a team player is
critical to making a project successful in both Engineering and Real Estate.
Problem solving is what Engineers do best. In Real Estate, the problem is finding your
clients their dream home which also fits their budget.
