With all of the media focus on the 65,000+ unaccompanied minors flowing into the United States from the south, America's true loving and compassionate spirit is awakend, again, as it is during the holidays.
There are needy and hurting men, women & children who are already in the United States, today, who have fallen on hard times due to economic or health reasons. Where is our sense of compassion for them 365 days a year? Where is the coverage of thousands of homeless Veterans who have returned from war to nothing -- no job, no family, no hope?
There are two outstanding organizations in our area that focus on the needs of Texans every day of the year, without media fanfare or the spotlight. They go about their mission, supporting those that need a little help right now. Equipping Texans with knowledge and skills to go forth and better themselves and their families so that one day, they can return the favor!
I want to encourage you to volunteer or donate food, clothing & money. Do it locally. Do it in March. Do it in July. Do it in October. Do it when it's not news.
City House's mission is that every child, youth & young adult develops the skills and confidence he/she needs to succeed in life, especially while coping with difficult relationships and circumstances. City House is located at 902 East 16th Street, Plano TX 75074. Samaritan Inn offers a comprehensive homeless program that helps willing people gain dignity and independence. Samaritan Inn is located at 1710 North McDonald Street, McKinney TX 75071.
Remember, charity isn't a "thing", it's a way of thinking, a way of life, a state of mind. And you can be charitable everyday.
