James and Elizabeth Routh Thomas are the first people to buy land in State Thomas, 40 acres.
Uptown was called the Vineyard on the west side of McKinney. The east side was called Thomas Colby District until 1976, when it became known as State Thomas.
McKinney Avenue Trolley welcomes first passengers since streetcars stopped running in 1956.
Uptown Dallas becomes a PID.
In the Dallas of 20 years ago, “Uptown” did not exist. Today the area has a widely known name replacing a variety of names from “the Vineyard” to “the McKinney Avenue Area” to part of “Oak Lawn”.
Today, Uptown is a community where residents, office workers and visitors enjoy the neighborhood on foot. Every weekend and even on many weekday evenings, hundreds of people walk the well-lit, tree-lined sidewalks from restaurant to restaurant, from home to the gym, from work and home to shops and public transit via the McKinney Avenue Trolley.
Uptown is the community of choice for young professionals because of this walkable urban character. Nowhere else in Dallas can they find the wide variety of quality housing options found in Uptown—luxury and more moderately priced apartments, townhomes, condominiums and even historic single-family homes. Add to that the wide variety of shopping, dining, and live theater opportunities including Theatre Three and Kitchen Dog, and exceptional cultural and recreational facilities in or immediately adjacent to Uptown—from the Katy Trail to the AT&T Performing Arts Center and American Airlines Center.
The attraction of the young professional has not escaped the notice of major employers. More and more corporations choose Uptown as their preferred office location because of its appeal to these workers. It’s easy to see why both young professionals and empty nesters find that Uptown has more to offer in one location than any other community in Dallas.

"When purchase my first home Gary's advice was invaluable. He spent hours with me driving around to different areas trying to find the perfect part of town and the perfect home. Finally he did push me out of my comfort zone and I ended up finding the perfect place outside of where I thought I wanted to be.
When actually negotiating on the home and working with the inspectors, I was extremely impressed with his knowledge of the process and what I did and didn't need to be worried about with the inspection process.
Overall I had a great experience purchasing my first home with Gary. I would completely recommend him to first time buyers. He is great at holding your hand and not making you feel like an idiot with all of the first timer questions."
