Hello October! It's time to tackle seasonal maintenance items that need to be done around the house before the cooler air sets in! Plus, taking care of the maintenance items now can save you aggravation and money down the road. Found a great article in US News that will help get you started!
Here are 15 fall home maintenance tasks to tackle now:
Clean gutters and downspouts. Leaves and debris gather in gutters, which can cause ice dams and other water damage when snow falls and then melts, or during rainstorms.
Remove leaves. Not only do you want the leaves out of your gutters, you want them off your roof and off your lawn.
Repair any damage toyour roof. Check for any shingle damage that needs to be fixed or replaced. Water can cause extensive damage! This may need to be done by a professional.
Clean your chimney. Have a chimney sweep come in every year to check your fireplace for safety and clean out the remains of last year's fires.
Check smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. It's smart to test the devices and replace the batteries every six months.
Change filters in heating and air conditioning units. Most forced-air systems work better when the filters are clean. I personally like to have my systems professionally checked and have a tune up at the beginning of the season.
