As of January 1st, 2013, the city had a Population Estimate of 129,574,up from 116,989,in the previous census (2010), making it thetwenty-sixth most populouscity in the state of Texas. Frisco was the fastest-growing city in theUnited Statesin 2009,and also the fastest-growing city in the nation from 2000 to 2009.In the late 1990s, the northernDallas–Fort Worth Metroplexsuburban development tide hit the northern border ofPlanoand spilled into Frisco, sparking explosive growth into the 2000s.

Frisco is home to several sporting venues, an NCAA Division I conference, an NHL hockey team, a Major League Soccer team, a minor hockey league and one of its teams, a Minor League Baseball team, and most recently added an NBA D-league team.
