Most people mark the fall season with the autumnal equinox. The autumnal equinox is when the sun appears to cross the celestial equator from north to south.
Some people mark the fall season with cooler temperatures during the day and night. This can be a problem for Texans when September temperatures can remain in the 90’s during the day.
As a result, I have my own fail safe method for remembering fall has arrived in Texas. Pumpkin Lattes!
If you haven’t noticed, pumpkin has hit the market triggering the start of my favorite season. In addition to pumpkin lattes, there are pumpkin cookies, cakes, candies, and home decorations.
With all the wonderful preparations for the fall season it’s important to remember your home can use more than a decorative spruce up for fall. It’s a great time to prepare your home for the coming winter months.
Here are a few pointers for getting your house ready for the changing seasons.
Clean your gutters in preparation for falling leaves. Check them periodically during the season to prevent clogs.
Prune your trees and plants, clean flower beds, and replenish mulch to help insulate plants during any freezes.
Winterize your sprinkler system.
Buy freeze guards to cover outdoor faucets.
Seal cracks around windows and doors. Replacing weather stripping around doors is an inexpensive fix that can save you money in the long run.
Have your furnace serviced and replace air filters.
Check your chimney for any blockages and make sure the damper is working correctly.
Enjoy the fall season!
