Yep, not only am I a REALTOR®, I'm a home buyer. While the neighborhood we live in now is nice, there's just something that compels us humans to move every few years. House is too big, too small, or too close to the in-laws. For us, it was wanting a newer neighborhood in an area that offers lots of activities and children for our daughter to play with.
McKinney Texas has won award after award so we thought there must be something to it. After several hours and miles exploring many communities and other homes, we found ourselves at The Reserve at Westridge, a D.R.Horton community. The rock waterfall entryway is impressive, but go down the street a bit further and be prepared to be awestruck by what appears to be a massive yellow sea creature, twisting and turning it's way out of the ground. "WATERSLIDES!" exclaimed our daughter. Yes, not one, but two giant waterslides dominate the community's pool area. If that's not enough, there's a splash pool, a family pool, and an adult's only pool for a bit more seclusion. Next to the pool area is a pond, complete with ducks and a solitary long legged bird of some sort. Our daughter was instantly sold!
After exploring the neighborhood and speaking with some of the residents who were outside taking advantage of the rare mild summer weather, we decided to find out more. We went to the sales office where we were greeted by Sharon Rambo, D.R.Horton sales representative, who told us more about The Reserve at Westridge with all the excitement of a mother talking about her child's latest achievement. She explained how the community has grown and how part of the community is in the Frisco ISD school boundary and another in the Prosper ISD boundary. She showed us future phases on a big wall mounted community map peppered with different colored circles. Sharon said the colors indicated the stage of the buying process for that particular home site. I noted there wasn't a circle on one lot that caught my eye. Hmm.... We toured the model homes, each seemingly fresh from the pages of House Beautiful, gathered our information packet Sharon put together for us, and went back home to soak it all in.
A few days passed and I couldn't get the image of the rectangle without a circle on the map in Sharon's office out of my mind. I know I called Sharon what seemed like 100 times with endless questions and each time, she cheerfully answered without hesitation. I'm sure she was shocked when I called to make an appointment to write an offer!
The next day, Sharon called to tell us our offer had been accepted! My daughter put a sticker on the rectangle, indicating it was under contract and with that, we embarked on one of our biggest adventures yet. We get to watch the slice of McKinney sandwiched between two other homes and complete with modern amenities such as sand piles and port-a-potty transform into our new home!
