Recently, one of mine and my mom’s (Kathleen Oliver)
favorite talk show host, Ellen DeGeneres,
featured two of her employees going through a Universal Studios’ Haunter House.
She had cameras follow them through and let’s just say the gentleman in the
video reacted the same way I would. Though, it was hilariously entertaining to
watch, he was really frightened at some points, to see the video click HERE. In watching this poor fellow’s low tolerance for hunted
houses, I began to wonder if there are real haunted houses around us in the Dallas and Collin county areas. Then, I remembered
something I learned in RealEstate School
about a homeowner having to disclose if a home is haunted or has ghost. You see,
if your house is “KNOWN” as a haunted house around town, you will need to
disclose this information to a prospective buyer. These homes are said to be
stigmatized properties. To see real haunted houses click HERE. Letting curiosity get the better of me, I decided to do some
research on stigmatized properties. The National
Association of Realtors did a survey and here are the surprising results
Real Estate Survey 41% of respondents would buy a place with reported ghost
36% of respondents wouldn’t object to levitating objects
15% of respondents would pay full market value of the home
19% of respondents would take a 31-50% discount
So here is my question,
would a supposed haunting scare you from buying a property? What if the said
property is the house of your dreams and you don’t believe in ghost anyways? Or
maybe you are buying the property as an investment property and you never plan
to personally live in it? As a Realtor, I have to respect my clients’ views and
that will always be my number one priority but I also have to inform them the
strength we could now have in a negotiation type setting. If you or anyone you know
