As mentioned before, in my endeavors to "sell Wylie" as a realtor for JP & Associates Realtors. I am featuring my favorite places around town... My oldest and at the top of my list is Shoemaker & Hardt. The owners Kent and Velma Crane have not seemed to change much since 1997 when I first moved here. I sat down and talked and reminisced with Velma a couple of weeks ago. I told her I remember when my two oldest would beg me every day to go to Shoemaker & Hardt and get "beanie babies" and now they are 23 and 20. I also told her how I remember her and Kent saying that when they were beginning to come up with the concept behind the store that they wanted a little something for everyone and Kent wanted a little kid to be able to come in and buy something with a dollar in their pocket. They started the store after discovering their love for going to auctions and starting to get a collection and then looking for a place to sell and share their many treasures with others. They did most all the work on the building themselves and the name came from their mother's maiden names in honor of them. Velma said that over the years, the thing that warms her heart the most is the sense of family that the store seems to invoke on it's patrons. And, I know what she is talking about! I have brought all five of my kids there to get "surprises" and ice cream to a Davy Crockett hat to Beanie Babies since 1997. I still go there to just peruse and get their delicious coffee and just sit and relax a while. I CANNOT brag enough about this place! It is unique, and charming, and cozy. And, the best time is now. The Christmas season is especially great because the store is so beautifully decorated and has such wonderful and unique choices for your holiday gifts. If am sure it will be one of your favorites too.... Shoemaker & Hardt Coffee House and Country Store is located in Historic Downtown Wylie,Texas. The building was put up in 1899 as a general mercantile with a funeral parlor in the back and dirt streets in the front. It has been many things since the turn of the century, but nothing as interesting as it is now. People come from all over to enjoy a great cup of coffee and a look around. From antiques, old books and marbles to Texas gifts and jewelry, you will find things that are interesting, unusual and some people say just plain weird. Like our stuffed dog, or our collection of glass eyes. Next time you are in town, stop by for a visit, you'll be glad you did. "Shannon does her homework before she comes for the initial consultation. She is prompt, precise, and knows the area market. We had our house under contract in one day and closed within a month. This was the smoothest process we have ever had!! Shannon is truly fantastic to work with!"
