A long way from my family in New York and Florida, I really
miss walking into my mom's kitchen or any family member’s home and taking in the delicious aromas that
filled the room. Yes, I know how
to cook but somehow it tastes better when someone else cooks it for you! Today I had the chance to take in those very
same aromas and yes, someone else cooked it and may I say…what a treat! I felt as if I were back in Florida visiting my
family and sitting down at my grandma’s table.
It was lunch time and they offer great lunch specials, for just $4.99 I
had a very generous portion of Pollo Guisado (stewed chicken and potatoes in
tomato sauce), Congri (Cuban rice and black beans), and Maduros (fried sweet
plantains). My friend had the Cubano
(Cuban sandwich) and she absolutely loved it!
Not a very large establishment; it feels like a cozy cafeteria
if there is such a thing. There are
booths to your left, a few tables in the middle and smiling faces behind the
counter who are ready to take your order and explain each food item…so don’t
worry if you don’t know what the whole Cuban food hype is all about. Oh and the
salsa music playing…makes you want to get up and dance but you can’t part from
your plate for very long!
At The Latin Pig they even serve
breakfast, I can’t wait to go back to try the Cuban breakfast which consists of
Rice with black beans, scrambled eggs, sweet plantain and sausage and yes they
have my favorite…café con leche (expresso and milk)! I think I’ll move in…or perhaps just become a
regular Latin piggy (smile). So now you don’t have to hop on a
plane to Miami to satisfy your Latin food craving, its right here in your
neighborhood! Pick up dinner on your way home or stop in for a pastry and cafecito (Cuban espresso), you must try this fabulous little place
if you've just moved to the area or are relocating here. When your friends and family come to visit
and they get hooked…tell them to visit www.johnsonlaneestates.com so we can
find them a home and they can become regulars too!
The Latin Pig Cuban Cuisine and Bakery is open Monday through Sunday from 11:00 AM to
8:00PM. They are located at 3131 Custer
Road Suite 165, Plano, TX 75075.
We hope to see you there!

"I had the good fortune of working with Elena to find a home in a tough, tough market.
Elena very quickly grasped what my partner and I were looking for, and was able to find houses that were right up our alley. The market made offers and transactions real work; Elena was undaunted. She refused to let us get discouraged, and battled through obstacles to snag us a sweet, charming place to hang our hats!
She stuck through even after the deal closed, when some small issues arose... which we could not address as we were out of town.
This woman gets it done!"
